Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961) is one of the most popular and influential American writers of the 20th century, renowned both for his novels and short stories and for a life full of adventures and surprises. Hemingway's literary reputation is founded on the style of his prose, which he honed with great care. In his first novel "Fiesta (The Sun Also Rises)," Hemingway addresses the problems and pain of the lost generation, intertwining love and loss after World War I. The story follows emigrants living in Paris in the 1920s: Jake Barnes—a veteran and journalist, and Brett Ashley—an English socialite. Together with the characters, we travel from the wild nightlife of Paris to the ruthless bullfighting arenas of Spain, immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of spiritual decay, moral bankruptcy, and elusive illusions. "The Spring Waters" is one of Hemingway's early novellas. Spring arrives in small Michigan towns while snow still covers the ground, as Scripps O'Neil heads to Chicago but decides to stop briefly in Petoskey, where he meets Yogi Johnson. They encounter quirky stories and characters that are absurd yet familiar to each of us. This short, dynamic novella parodies the style and mocks the characters from the novel "Dark Laughter" by the American writer Sherwood Anderson.
