Seven stories about students of an ordinary Russian school – originating from Yemen, Afghanistan, South Sudan, CAR, Palestine, Syria, and DRC – based on real events and telling what difficulties refugee children and their families have to overcome. Language barriers and cultural differences, lack of legal status and state support, poverty, social isolation, and bullying are just some of the problems forced migrants face. Graphic stories compiled by writer Alexey Oleynikov and created by students of the Higher School of Economics are supplemented with global statistics and brief notes about the countries of origin and reasons for forced migration. The book also includes a memo on how to help people in such situations. The book is published jointly with the UN Refugee Agency with the support of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art.
